Antalya
The Turkish Riviera's capital — Roman ruins, turquoise water and an old town that predates them both.
Antalya is the gateway to the Mediterranean coast and far deeper than its resort reputation. Behind the beaches sit Roman theatres, a walled old town of Ottoman houses, and waterfalls that drop straight into the sea.
We use Antalya as a base for the whole Pamphylian coast — the ancient cities inland, the quiet bays east and west, and the mountains that rise behind them.

Planning Antalya
The practical answers, before you book anything.
April–June and September–November. July and August are very hot and crowded; winter is mild and good for ruins.
3–4 days to combine the old town, one or two ancient cities and a day on the water.
Antalya Airport (AYT) has direct flights from most of Europe; the old town (Kaleiçi) is about 25 minutes away.
Antalya: common questions
Is Antalya only a beach resort?
No. Kaleiçi old town, Perge, Aspendos and Termessos make it one of the best bases for Roman sites in the Mediterranean.
When is the sea warm enough to swim in Antalya?
Roughly from late May to late October, with the warmest water in August and September.
