Alanya
A Seljuk fortress on a rocky headland, with beaches on either side.
Alanya is dominated by its great castle, which crowns a rocky peninsula above the Mediterranean. The Seljuk sultan Alaeddin Keykubad made it his winter capital in the 13th century, and his walls and shipyard still stand.
Today it is a large resort, but the historic peninsula, the Taurus Mountains behind it and long sunny seasons make it more than a beach town.

Antalya offers more history and city life; Alanya is more of a beach resort with a spectacular castle. We often combine them.
Can you walk up to Alanya Castle?
Yes, though it is a steep climb. A cable car also links the beach to the castle area.
