Çanakkale sits on the Dardanelles, the narrow strait between Europe and Asia. Within an hour are the ruins of Troy and the battlefields of the 1915 Gallipoli campaign, which shaped the modern histories of Türkiye, Australia and New Zealand.
It is a relaxed university town with a lively waterfront. We plan the battlefields with a specialist guide and the ancient sites around the light, and often continue south to Assos and Bozcaada.

Planning Çanakkale

April–June and September–October. Anzac Day (25 April) is very busy on the peninsula — book months ahead.
2 days for Troy and Gallipoli; 3–4 with Assos or Bozcaada.
About 4–5 hours by road from Istanbul over the 1915 Çanakkale Bridge. Çanakkale Airport (CKZ) has limited flights.

Is Troy worth visiting?
Yes, especially combined with the Troy Museum. The ruins are modest to look at, so a good guide makes a big difference.
How much time do you need for Gallipoli?
A full day covers the main Anzac and Turkish memorials. Visitors with family connections often want a second day for specific cemeteries.
