Antakya, the ancient Antioch, was one of the great cities of the Roman world and an early centre of Christianity. For centuries it was known for the coexistence of faiths and for a cuisine that won it recognition as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy.
The city was very severely affected by the February 2023 earthquakes, and recovery is ongoing. We plan any visit carefully, with up-to-date local information and respect for a community that is rebuilding.
