Bergama is the modern town below ancient Pergamon, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the great cities of the Hellenistic world. Its acropolis crowns a steep hill, reached by cable car.
The site includes one of the steepest theatres of antiquity, the Asclepion — a famous healing centre — and the Red Basilica in the town. We plan it as a full day from Izmir or Ayvalık.
