Seven days is the sweet spot for a first Türkiye trip: four days in Istanbul, three in Cappadocia, connected by a one-hour flight. This pacing covers the essentials without the exhaustion of a checklist tour — and leaves room for the unplanned hours that end up being the best part.
Days 1–2: Historic Istanbul
Base yourself near Sultanahmet or Karaköy. Day one: Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque early, Basilica Cistern at midday, Grand Bazaar in the afternoon. Day two: Topkapı Palace in the morning, then cross to the Asian side for Kadıköy's food streets — the ferry ride itself is one of the city's great experiences.
Day 3: The Bosphorus and Modern Istanbul
A private Bosphorus cruise in the late afternoon catches the city in its best light. Fill the earlier hours in Galata and Karaköy: the tower views, contemporary galleries and third-wave coffee that show Istanbul is not only a museum city.
Day 4: Fly to Cappadocia
Morning flight to Kayseri or Nevşehir (about one hour), transfer to Göreme or Uçhisar, and spend the afternoon gently: the Göreme Open-Air Museum and a sunset viewpoint. Early night — tomorrow starts before dawn.
Days 5–6: Balloons and Valleys
Day five begins with the sunrise hot-air balloon flight — book it for your first possible morning so weather cancellations can be rebooked. Spend the rest of the day recovering slowly: Avanos pottery, a long lunch, cave-hotel terrace time. Day six: hike Rose or Pigeon Valley with a guide, visit Kaymaklı or Derinkuyu underground city, and end at a quiet viewpoint away from the crowds.
Day 7: Return and Depart
Fly back to Istanbul for your international connection, or extend: with three more days, the Aegean coast (Ephesus, Şirince) turns this route into the classic Türkiye triangle.
Booking Order That Saves Headaches
- First: international flights and the balloon flight (weather-buffered on your first Cappadocia morning)
- Second: hotels — boutique cave hotels in Cappadocia sell out earliest
- Third: domestic flights, private guides and transfers
- Last: restaurant reservations for 2–3 signature evenings
