Good aftercare is mostly about consistency: gentle washing exactly as prescribed, protecting the grafts from friction and sun, and resisting the urge to rush back to the gym. Your own clinic's instructions always take priority — this guide covers the practices most Turkish clinics agree on.
The Do List
- Follow the washing routine your clinic prescribes, with the products they provide
- Sleep elevated for the first week, ideally with a travel pillow to prevent rubbing
- Wear loose button-up shirts instead of anything pulled over the head
- Keep the clinic's aftercare contact saved and ask early when unsure
- Attend or complete every follow-up check, including remote ones
The Avoid List
- Touching, scratching or picking scabs — the fastest way to lose grafts
- Heavy exercise, saunas, steam rooms and swimming for the period your clinic specifies (commonly around 4 weeks)
- Direct intense sunlight on the scalp in the early weeks; use the head covering your clinic recommends
- Alcohol and smoking during the early healing window, which can slow recovery
- Helmets and tight hats until your clinic approves them
Washing, Properly
Most clinics prescribe a foam-and-lotion routine: softening the scabs with lotion, rinsing with lukewarm water, and patting — never rubbing — with a clean towel. The routine typically starts at the clinic itself and continues daily at home until scabs clear, usually within two weeks.
When to Contact the Clinic
Persistent or increasing pain, spreading redness, discharge, or fever are reasons to contact your clinic the same day. A reputable provider gives you a named aftercare contact before you leave — if you were not given one, ask.
How Itinerary of Türkiye Helps
We make sure the aftercare plan is in writing before you fly, and we remain your bridge to the clinic during recovery — translation included — so nothing gets lost between you and the medical team.
